Most people find acupuncture relaxing and often feel very calm after a treatment. Others may feel energized, or tired and sleepy. On occasion, people may feel light-headed and slightly disoriented. It’s a result of renewed energy flow through previously blocked meridians and rarely lasts longer than an hour.
You should refrain from vigorous exercise after treatment and, ideally, give yourself a little time to rest. It is also advisable not to drink alcohol for several hours after treatment.
True healing takes time and dedication
Depending on your current health and symptoms, your relief may be immediate, delayed for a few hours, or even develop after one to three days. The relief may last for a few hours on the first visit and then last longer with each successive treatment. With a little patience and an open mind, you’ll be on your way to health and vitality.
Flare-up
On rare occasions, one’s original symptoms may briefly get worse, or “flare up,” after a treatment. After a flare-up, your symptoms should begin to improve.
In some conditions, the body must fully expel a pathogen in order for healing to occur. For example, after the treatment some people may have diarrhea. It is believed the body starts to get rid of toxins out of the system. In cases of chronic pain, your original pain may improve and then unmask less obvious pain in the surrounding areas.
